Best Skopje Hotels City Centre

1) Hotel Cara 1928
Skopje is not a huge city but the main square is really fun to walk around at night, so you’ll want to stay in a centrally located hotel. That’s why you’re looking for the best Skopje Hotels City Centre. I recommend the Hotel Cara 1928. It’s clean, comfy, and very centrally located.
Plus there was a tasty, ginormous breakfast included for free at the restaurant next door every morning. For some reason, I forgot to take a photo of my hotel room, but you can see the real and spectacular repast in my photograph with all the tomatoes. It wasn’t served at the hotel itself, but you can walk just a short distance down the street and get an authentically Macedonian breakfast for free.

2) Hotel DOA
I know that the name of this hotel sounds a little bit ominous. Does DOA mean something different in Macedonian? I can’t be sure. But the Hotel DOA is still an excellent choice if you are looking for one of the best hotels Skopje City Centre.
This hotel has a great location within walking distance of the Old Bazaar, which is one of my favorite parts of Skopje. The hotel has free wifi, parking, a 24 hour front desk, and even access to an airport shuttle. (I didn’t use the airport in Skopje, but it’s not far from the city centre.)
Many hotels in the Balkans have a yummy breakfast included every morning, and Hotel DOA is no exception. It’s nice to not have to worry about where you are going to find your morning meal or your coffee.
The staff is extremely helpful, and if you want their advice about the best things to do in Skopje, they will be delighted to help you out. The rooms are also quite lovely. They are clean and comfortable and everything you could wish for in your little home away from home in Skopje. This is the right choice for someone looking for a hotel that has a bit of glamour but is still affordable.

3) Osten Art Hotel
The Osten Art Hotel has some of the best reviews out of all the best Skopje hotels city centre, and it is easy to see why. This hotel also has an extremely central location. It’s just a short walk from Macedonia Square and the massive statue of Not Alexander the Great.
The hotel has many great features that will make your stay there more comfortable and enjoyable. They have great breakfast options included in the morning. You can get anything from a continental breakfast to a full English breakfast. Beans and blood sausage in Skopje? Sign me up for that!
There is also free wifi and free parking, as well as a complimentary tea and coffee maker in each room. There is just something so delightful about being able to make your own coffee in your hotel room as soon as you get up in the morning. There is also an airport shuttle–just be sure to arrange the use with the hotel in advance and you will be good to go!
The staff is just about the kindest and most helpful staff that you could find in Skopje. If you want help getting to the attractions in the area, like say, taking a tour of the beautiful Matka Canyon, they will help you find where everything is. The price is also very reasonable. Truly, there is no way you can do better during your time in Skopje!

4) Hotel de KOKA
OK, here we have another slightly oddly named hotel. I do think the Hotel de KOKA has a better name than Hotel DOA, even though I am not sure what KOKA means. This hotel is also located within walking distance of the main attractions like Macedonia Square and the Old Bazaar. I promise that all the best Skopje Hotels City Centre have a convenient location!
The hotel also has a delicious breakfast included every morning. If you’d rather buy snacks instead of going out to restaurants for dinner, you can buy some at a conveniently nearby store.
You can find all of the comforts that you would expect to find in the high quality hotels in Skopje. There is free wifi, free parking, and a coffee and tea maker in each and every room. I don’t drive, so I did not use the parking, but I think it’s useful to know that it is there. They also have free water in the hotel lobby. There is also a 24 hour front desk, and the staff can arrange an airport shuttle for you, for a fee, if you need one on the day you are leaving.
The staff is kind and helpful. They’ll even let you pay for the hotel in Euros because the local currency, dinar, can be difficult to find. (I doubt they’ll let you pay in US Dollars, but they do take credit cards like Mastercard and Visa.)

5) Hotel Centar
As you can probably tell by the name, Hotel Centar has a convenient location right in the city center. Hey, I promised the best Skopje hotels city centre, and I promise that I will not steer you wrong. This hotel is within walking distance of the museums and even the Parliament building, as well as other attractions.
One of the unique features of this hotel is that it actually has an indoor swimming pool. It’s common for hotels in the United States to have swimming pools, but it’s a bit more unusual in countries like Macedonia. And this is not just some little rinky dinky swimming pool. It is actually an Olympic sized swimming pool. So if that’s something you’re looking to take advantage of, this is the hotel for you! That’s why I say this is one of the best Skopje hotels city centre.
There is also free parking and free wifi, which you probably have come to expect at this point. The hotel can also arrange an airport shuttle for you, if you don’t have a car. There is also a fitness room, which seems like it would go great with the swimming pool.
Of course, I did not forget the free breakfast! This hotel has one too, and it is served in the hotel restaurant. The coffee is also good quality, which isn’t always the case in Skopje. There aren’t a lot of coffee plantations in this part of the world, after all.

6) Hotel Premium
If you’re looking for a classy hotel, you can’t go wrong with the Hotel Premium. Just the name alone evokes a sense of class. (Perhaps even more so than the hotel DOA.) The hotel has an excellent location right within walking distance of the Old Bazaar, exactly as you would expect.
It also has a breakfast every morning, served buffet style. Breakfast in the Balkans tends to have more sliced meat and cheese and vegetables than we are used to in the United States, but there are more “American friendly” options as well.
You can probably list off the classic Skopje hotel amenities with me at this point. There is free parking and also free wifi. There is an airport shuttle service, although you have to pay a bit of a fee for that one. There is a 24 hour front desk, in case the statue of “Alexander the Great” comes to life and you need some help running away from it. (They are there to help with more normal and realistic problems as well.) There’s also a tea/coffee maker in the room.
The staff is very knowledgeable and polite, and they will definitely assist you with anything you could be looking for. The hotel also has an attractive rooftop restaurant, which is a great place to be on an evening in Skopje when the weather is nice. (The city is actually quite charming looking when it’s all lit up at night.)

7) Hotel Alexandar II
No, I have not misspelled the name of this hotel. It really is called the Hotel Alexandar II. I wonder if they spell it that way because the government of Greece doesn’t like it when North Macedonians claim that Alexander the Great was one of them.
This hotel has a completely perfect location. It’s right within walking distance of all the main attractions and restaurants in Skopje. If you hire a guided tour to a place like Lake Ohrid or Kosovo, it will be easy for the guide to find you and pick you up. That’s just one reason I say this is one of the best Skopje hotels city centre.
The hotel has free wifi and an airport shuttle service for an additional fee. There are also several different options for the free breakfast. You can get a buffet or a continental breakfast. Really, it is amazing to me that there are any restaurants in Skopje that serve breakfast at all because all the hotels provide their own breakfast. But I guess it’s for the locals, who need love too.
The hotel also has a gym in case you want to stay fit while you’re on the road. I did not use the gym, but you are welcome to try it. The staff is extremely accommodating, and they will be happy to help you make the most out of your time in Skopje!

What to Do
Skopje isn’t an incredibly large city, but there is still plenty to do there. I spent three nights and two full days in Skopje, and that was definitely a good amount of time to see the city.
There are several excellent day trips that one can take from Skopje. The most popular trips are probably either heading to Kosovo, which is a unique experience, or a trip to North Macedonia’s most beautiful attraction, Lake Ohrid. This lake is absolutely one of the most beautiful bodies of water I have ever seen, and I have been on every continent except for Antarctica.
There are plenty of things to do in Skopje as well. There are museums like the Archaeological Museum where you can learn all about the ancient and honorable history of Macedonia.
You can just stroll around and admire the bizarre architecture and learn why locals sometimes call Skopje the “Las Vegas of the Balkans”. Or you can just pick up some amazing cheese at a local market and wash it down with Macedonian craft beer. Up to you.
